Politically correct v. right. PC favored by 10

Rush should have known better.  No matter how FACTUALLY ACCURATE his statement was, he should have known better.  Rush Limbaugh has gotten nailed to the wall for statements he made about the NFL brass and the news media.  Yes, that is who he was talking about.  His only comments directed toward Donovan McNabb, quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles were that he was overrated.  That is a charge that has been made of quarterbacks, black and white, ever since the advent of the T formation.

Rush said that the media and the NFL muckety muck were proclaiming McNabb to be better than he is to show the world that the league has a successful black quarterback.  The reason behind this is two fold.  First, the NFL has recently suffered from extortion by Jesse Jackson, which resulted in the silly rule that any NFL team had to interview a black coach for any opening that team might have.  The team is under no obligation to hire the coach, it simply has to interview one.  Secondly, the NFL wants to show the world how advanced and enlightened it is by having a successful black quarterback.  It is very similar to what John Kerry did when he proclaimed that he had a black friend.

Before you say that the NFL is past such ideas, since they have had Randall Cunningham and Doug Williams, let us look at the facts.  Cunningham suffered criticism throughout his career that he was an athlete playing quarterback.  No one ever claimed he was at the level of Dan Marino, Joe Montana or John Elway.  Doug Williams won a Super Bowl and had a spotty career otherwise.

So, the bottom line is, that Rush was RIGHT, as his fans are fond of saying.  However, he should have known better.  The politically correct thought police have taken over America.  There are some things that cannot be said in polite circles, even the polite circles of an NFL pregame show.  Rush may have been right, but he certainly was not politically correct.  In this modern enlightened world in which we live, we have a valuable object lesson as to which is more important.

ESPN stated at his hiring that Limbaugh wouldn't give politically charged opinions on their network. He should've saved that gem for his regular show.

You forgot to mention Warren Moon, who is/was also a successful black quarterback. I don't know if he's retired yet, since I can't get American football here.

lonelawyer,
I wake up every sunday morning for one thing and one thing only FOOTBALL!
I want to forget politics, the world's problems including mine, the last thing I want to hear is some 'GOOD OLD BOY' enlightening us with his words of wisdom including yours. You forgot to mention all the other players (quarterbacks too) that the NFL and media has hyped up the color of their skin was never an issue.

What ever happened to the freedom of speech. If you agree with the PC elet then you may say anything you want, just do not disagree with them. The big problem with the PC nazias the truth can never be spoken. I also disagree with the statement "In this modern enlightened world in which we live..." the PC nazias are sending us back to the dark ages, what ever happened to the phrase "the truth will set you free."

ESPN was an embaressment. They "missed it" was their excuse. Limbaugh is a lying hypocrite who disgusts me. In this case, however, I have to side with him simply becaause he was doing what they hired him to do. Be controversial. He gave an opinion, plain and simple. His sin? A white man talking about an issue involving a black man. Right or wrong doesn't matter. Blacks can talk about whites in the most disparaging terms and nothing is said. What happened to democracy?

Rush was NOT right. He was stupid. He should have been fired for being stupid.McNabb was selected as all pro by his peers.Does his peers think he was overrated or do they just vote for the politically correct candidate. The race game has been over now for several decades.Someone should clue Rush in on it.What was ESPN thinking when they hired this guy.

I am the last person in the world to defend Rush. However, he stated an opinion. Which is his job. To ignore the fact the McNabb is black is wrong. He is what he is. Just like someone is Irish or Jewish. He is black.

Perhaps the media does give McNabb more attention because he is black.I know for certain he got more attention and praise this past Sunday from the media and broadcasters, who lavished praise on him in a blatant attempt to make nice. QB have traditionally been white. That is a fact. McNabb was one of the first to break that barrier and he should be proud of that.

I didn't find Rushs' statement to be offensive, but then again I am white.I am also a huge McNabb fan and do not agree with Rush that he is overated. But that is my opinion. Ignoring the dfferences in people is only setting the race realations back. The pc police have gone too far. People are different. That is what is so great about us The sportscasters said on Sunday that color hasn't been brought as an issue for 20 years. Why not?

You mustn't turn a blind eye to people differences. If you asked Donovan if he is proud that he is one of the few black QBs I bet he would say yes. He should be! Is Rush rasist? I don't think so. If he was he would have realized what he said would be turned around. When I look at my black or gay friends I see friends. Not life style or color. But at the same time to ignore the fact that they are gay or black would be a betryal of who they are.

we as americans are supposed to accept every person regardless of race, creed or color. Does that mean that we are to ignore the differences? Apparently so. At least thats what the PC police seem to want. I teach my children that people are different. That it is what makes people special. Different. That they should celebrate and embrace the differences in all people. The bottom line is this. Was Rush wrong to say what he said? Yes. Should it be wrong to say such things? No.

Sorry,do'nt feel sorry for Limbaugh,he's all mouth and wants to be sensational, sorry again. League dos'nt need to make McNabb look better, what about that McNair kid down in Tennessee, what about Warren Moon. Granted Vick still has much to prove the book is still out on McNabb and anyone with any sence would know that. But that in itself lets Limbo out.
